Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Veteran Services Coordinator responsibility is to assist eligible veterans in applying for educational VA benefits. Adhere to all policies and regulations for compliance by the Texas Veteran’s Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Must be able to provide detailed information on the student enrollment process, including but not limited to admissions, financial aid, advising, registration and student accounts; along with information on Federal, State, and Local veteran-focused aid to students attending Laredo College and pursuing their educational goals. This position aids in all areas of enrollment services as needed.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities- Prepares enrollment certifications, monitors veteran’s enrollment on a weekly basis, and prepares changes in status form as necessary.
- Ensures that all certifications, Veteran benefits (Chapter 31, 33, GI Bill, Hazelwood, Hazelwood Legacy, Vocational Rehabilitation, Exemption etc.) are advertised properly and available to all qualified veterans.
- Ensures that all policies, procedures, and regulations from both the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Veteran Affairs are followed and disseminated to the college administration and staff.
- Maintains veteran student files and ensures files comply with appropriate agency regulations.
- Maintains a close working relationship with Enrollment Management and Student Services Divisions.
- Assists veterans in preparing applications for educational benefits.
- Submits end-of-semester grades to the V.A. for Voc-Rehab students.
- Check grades each semester of all veterans receiving benefits and submit appropriate forms to the V.A. Office.
- Maintains an up-to-date degree plan for each eligible veteran.
- Provides guidance and intervention that can assist a student continue their educational journey.
- Assist in the maintenance the Veteran Services webpage and catalog component.
- Assist in formulating the Veteran Services operational departmental budget.
- Assists in the development of the Institutional Effectiveness plan, goals and expected outcomes for Veterans Services.
- Assists in the development of communication and digital content pieces for prospective Veteran/Veteran Dependent students.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions based on precedent actions and/or challenge precedent decisions based on changing evidence.
- Serves as a customer service representative for the Veteran Services Office, serves as a backup to other staff, assists in other office functional tasks, assists administration with ongoing projects, as needed.
- Participates in professional development training provided by the Department of Veteran Affairs, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, amongst others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited College or University.
- 3 years of full-time employment experience in an office setting at a progressively responsible professional level.
- Maintains a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance required to conduct official business when travel is needed.
- Must complete certifications to the VA Enrollment Manager system within first month of employment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Leadership, Social Behavioral Science or related field.
- Experience with veteran programs management/administration in a Higher Education institution.
- Experience in enrollment management, admissions, recruitment, financial aid or a closely related field in Higher Education.
- 3 years of full-time employment experience in higher education.
- Experience in interpreting rules/regulations or management of federal or state programs.
- Experience with software such as: Ellucian Banner, VAOnce, Enrollment Manager, other related Federal and State Veteran Education Services portals, CANVA, CASCADE, etc.
- Proficient in computer applications such as: MS Word, Google products, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, data entry, data interpretation or related.
- Veteran status preferred (Honorable Discharge, General Discharge & Medical Discharge).

- Interpret questions, identify problems, read reference manuals, and identify actionable insights from ambiguous and sometimes limited information to propose solutions and process improvements
- Perform data entry and word processing with speed and accuracy without immediate and constant supervision.
- Knowledge and expertise in student technical support skills, i.e., retrieving reports, correspondence operations, and communication products.
- Ability to multi-task, function under pressure,work independently, accept responsibility with limited supervision, manage multiple tasks to completion, and work with frequent interruptions as part of a team environment.
- Willingness to lead through positive influence and take ownership and accountability for actions and decisions.
- Anticipate needs and create a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive environment.
- Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn Ellucian Banner administrative computing system, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, Centralized Application Service (CAS), and ARGOS reporting system, or other similar systems.
- Knowledge of the enrollment process, ie. admissions applications, admissions criteria, recruitment in a college setting, financial aid, college advising, and registration.
- Must be highly flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, high-energy work environment that emphasizes measurable work outcomes.
- Skilled in record keeping, data management, data interpretation, etc.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work assignments.
