Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Bookkeeping, Payroll & QuickBooks Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and ensuring effective teaching and learning in Bookkeeping, Payroll, and QuickBooks Certification programs through the Continuing Education Department. This role involves developing and adapting course curricula to align with industry standards, preparing comprehensive lesson plans and course materials, and maintaining accurate records, including attendance and grading. The instructor must create an engaging learning environment, fostering student participation and motivation through interactive teaching methods and real-world applications.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop course/program curriculum to address the particular area of instruction via face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid.
2. Provide instruction in the following content areas: Bookkeeping, Payroll, and QuickBooks.
3. Prepare tailored course documentation such as lesson plan, courses syllabi, assignments, quizzes/exams.
4. Follow daily lesson plans to ensure quality, consistency, and uniformity of instruction and student conduct
5. Adapt to different teaching styles to accommodate to the population and teaching modes
6. Keep accurate attendance records and submit required continuing education class documents in a timely manner
7. Provide students with information about the goals and requirements of each course, the nature of the course content, and the methods of evaluation to be employed, including required classroom behavior
8. Measure each student’s progress through the use of written exams or performance assessments essential to mastery of unit objectives. Inform students of course progression and provide supplemental materials and/or instruction when necessary
9. Be responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment, classroom/lab, and all other teaching materials
10. Must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality by following FERPA standards.
11. Work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends, depending on class demand.
12. Participate in training activities as needed by the department
13. Performs other related duties assigned by the Director, Dean, Associate Provost/Strategic & Collaborative Partnerships, Provost/Vice-President of Academic Affairs, or PresidentQualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:
Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a closely related field.
Three years of industry experience in the area of Accounting, Bookkeeping, Payroll. Must be proficient in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office.
Valid Texas Drivers License.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
Previous teaching or training experience.
Relevant industry certifications (e.g., QuickBooks, Payroll, Bookkeeping, Microsoft Office).Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of fundamental accounting, bookkeeping principles, payroll processing and reporting practices
- Proficient in QuickBooks Online and other accounting software tools.
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, competency-based instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, or virtual formats.
- Skilled in using instructional technologies such as Zoom, CANVAS, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to evaluate student learning fairly and ethically.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and comply with institutional reporting procedures.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and a commitment to student success.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
